4th Annual Ghostie Kitties Birthday Boxathon Benefitting Purrfect Pals Cat Shelter

Either you already know all about this, and you're already scanning the wish lists and popping popcorn, or you have no idea what we are talking about. If you already know what this is, skip ahead to the "Win A Cat Ball" section.
Here is a summary for anyone who is new to the Ghostie Kittens Birthday Boxathon:

4th Annual Ghostie Kitties Birthday Boxathon benefitting Purrfect Pals Cat Shelter

Foster Dad John, who is famous for sharing some 50 or so litters of foster kittens with the world on a web cam, once hosted a litter of kittens called "The Ghostbuster Fosters". This litter of two surviving kittens and the one-eyed mamma cat was adopted by a family in the Seattle area, and to support the Purrfect Pals cat shelter that the cats came from, this family now hosts an annual event to gather supplies for the Purrfect Pals cat shelter. That's my blunt summary of the event (and I do invite anyone to add a more eloquent description in the comments).

OK, so what does this mean? What is actually happening? Who really cares about this? Here's the thing: John's kitten webcams were cool. They allowed people to watch kittens grow up, and the cams worked as a tool to help place kittens into adoptive homes. But the other thing that happened is that the kitten cam includes a chat room, and this feature helped to create a community, and the community is amazing.

Foster Dad John has since healed from his injuries and no longer needs to wear the cone of shame

The Kitten Cam Community

This community extends around the world. This community created the Kitten Cam Convention. This community has also encouraged more people to support cat adoptions and to become foster families, and now there are many kitten cams around the world, which means you can watch kittens in your pajamas, and some of them may be located close to you, so it's a chance to meet kittens before adopting them.

The third annual Ghosties Kittens Birthday Boxathon

Birthday Boxathon

So let's get back to the upcoming event. On March 10th, 2018 the Ghostbusters Fosters will be hosting their 4th annual Birthday Boxathon. People are going to buy things that the Purrfect Pals cat sanctuary and adoption centers needs, these things will be shipped to the Ghostbuster's home, and they will pile up in an enormous pile until the day of the event, when we will get together, unbox the stuff, and enjoy watching Ray, Egon and Janine go nuts in a house full of brown packing paper and empty shipping boxes.

The cat shelter needs lots of stuff, from food and KMR to a specific type of cat carrier that is used in their innovative prison program (you guys, this is so cool! This program places cats who need more time to get comfortable with humans with inmates who proudly and responsibly help these cats to adjust to people). Purrfect Pals has moved into a beautiful new facility, and they are still working on catification projects, and need the Kuranda Towers and Kitty Kasas for their rooms. You can read more about the special deal for buying and donating these items here.

Rascal demonstrates how to use the Cat Ball cat bed

The Cat Ball and Cat Canoe

The Cat Canoe® and the Cat Ball® cat bed are popular with cat shelters because frightened cats seem to feel more secure and confident when they can hide in a bed, and people can still see cats when they are in the beds. Our cat bed designs work particularly well in cat adoption rooms, and Purrfect Pals partners with pet stores all around the Seattle metro area, placing adoptable cats in cat rooms where people can come in and visit. Many of these rooms offer cats a free and open place to roam around.

How We Are Contributing - Part 1

Want to donate a Cat Canoe® and the Cat Ball®  to the Purrfect Pals cat shelter? We are offering selected products at a 30% discount AND we will be hand delivering the beds to the event, so there will not be a shipping charge. How do you get one of these beds? Go to this link, and use this coupon code: ghostbuster2018

Include a message when you checkout (or follow up with an email) and we will add a birthday card with your order.

To summarize:

  • Buy a Cat Canoe® or Cat Ball® to donate to Purrfect Pals, but be sure to use this special link.
  • Use the coupon code: ghostbuster2018 to save 30%
  • We will deliver your bed to the Birthday Boxathon, and you won't waste any money on shipping
  • Include a message with your purchase and we will add a birthday card
  • If you have questions, or goof up your coupon code, contact jennifer at thecatball dot com

Do you love Purrfect Pals and cat adoptions? You can win a Cat Ball cat bed!

How We Are Contributing - Part 2 - Win a Cat Ball!

OK, hopefully you haven't fallen asleep, because this is the fun part!

I am totally amazed at the support that this community has given to the Purrfect Pals cat shelter, and for cats who need homes. It makes me feel so good that there is a loving and supportive community, and I want to offer a little reward, a little feel-good thing: a free Cat Ball®. Who wins and how do you win? This prize is for someone who is active in this community, someone who knows about John's kitten cams, Purrfect Pals, the Ghostbuster Fosters. Maybe you bought a gift to contribute, or maybe you weren't able to. Either situation is OK. What I want you to do is to leave a comment here. Maybe tell us how you feel about the kitten cams, maybe tell us about the cat you adopted. You're welcome to tell us which Cat Ball you'd want if you won, or tell us about your cat. Just engage and interact here in the comments, because this is a place for friends, for family, for fun, for community, and for support. The winner's name will be drawn from the comments made here.

01/22/18 EDIT: If you win and for some reason you do not want the Cat Ball, we are happy to deliver it to a friend of your choice, or to Purrfect Pals. Whatever works best for your situation!

I’m from the UK, and I found The Critter Room when the Scientists were in residence, and have been an avid watcher ever since! Love FDJ, the kittens, and the wonderful Kitten Cam community. Have laughed, cried, and cheered (as when the wonderful ‘English Gentleman’, came to the rescue of Ripley, and became an essential part of Critter Room folklore). I can’t have a kitty of my own at the moment, because of my living/working situation, so watching the cam is really special for me. Thank you to all who make this possible.

Happened upon the Critter Room with the Mythbusters litter. Fell in love and have continued watching since. Much laughter and many tears since then. I have had 6 rescues. The latest is a little (relatively speaking) Maine Coon who is the sweetest little guy. Am looking forward to the party.

I started wstching the Critter Room when the Mythbusters were born. The kitten cam is such amazing therapy. I am in awe of FDJ and other kitty foster parents. What they do for cats and kittens is so very selfless. Purrfect Pals is a fantastic shelter and I’ve supported it for years now, even though I live a few thousand miles away.
Last year at KCC 2017 I was privileged to win the personalized Cat Ball. If I won one, Jennifer, I’d pay it forwsrd and donate it to Purrfect Pals. Thank you for supporting the Ghosties’ box-a-thon.

The Ghostbuster Fosters were my first kitten cam litter! I was home recovering from surgery and a friend sent me the link to fill my time. Fast forward to now – I’m a proud kitten foster parent, and I volunteer in my local shelter’s clinic. Never would have thought to do it if I hadn’t learned so much from FDJ and other kitten cam foster parents. My own cat is a proud user of her Cat Ball and Cat Canoe…and my fosters have enjoyed theirs, too.

Where do I begin! I came to know of Purrfect Pals through my adoption of Luna (formerly Molly Weasley) three years ago. She gave birth to 7 kittens and was adopted only to be returned a few months later due to allergies. I saw her and it was love at first sight. She is the best house panther and I adore her. Over a year ago I came across a post for this guy called FDJ on their page, found his kitten cam and somehow fell in love with a kitten named Donner. I am his human :) One catnoe, catball and Shark Ball later I have a happy home of four felines who I adore and a kitten cam family who I also adore.

I first discovered John’s Critter Room in 2014 while at home recovering from illness. I’ve been hooked since then on the amazing Kitten Cams and the wonderful Kitten Cam community. Life is always a little brighter when cats and kittens are a part of it! I’ve also been a fan of the fantastic catnoes and cat balls since they were introduced! Thank you for making this an annual celebration where we can send some love and support to Purfect Pals through those amazing Ghosties Kitties! (((Hugs)))

Started watching with Shelby and Lizzie and love the work that Purrfect Pals does and John does with TCR. I’ve learned so much and was inspired to adopt a wonderful rescue boy. I can never deny the kits (“of course they are not spoiled”) and one way or another a catball will be in their future :-)

I have been watching FDJ since the Ghostbusters. I was so smitten with Ray how could I turn it off! When I was having problems with depression one summer The Critter Room and TinyKittens helped me through it immensely. My current cats are both Rescues and both about 1.5 yrs old. Quinn was going as a baby kitten in a front yard and taken to a local rescue. I adopted her when she was 13 weeks old. Arlo was rescued my a friend of mine- she say a small cat carrier on her neighbors front porch and felt something wasn’t right after it had been there at least a day. She snooped and saw s small kitten. She talked to the owner and they agreed to let her take him, get him Vet checked and for her to foster him. She was in pretty bad shape, but she fostered him to health and 6 weeks later, he joined my family. They two of them race around here constantly! Never a dull moment!

Sammy (my almost 15 year old tabby) have been watching the Critter Room Cam since the Scientists were just wee little kittens. This year Sammy wanted to donate a couple of Cat Balls since she absolutely loves to nap in her own cubby hole. (Purchased before we knew about the Cat balls.) She wants the shelter kitties to be as happy as she is!

I started watching John’s cam near the end of the Hitchhikers fosters and have been watching ever since. I love the community that’s built around it and how giving they all are whether it’s the boxathon or funding the campaigns for additional care for the fosters and shelter cats.

Greetings cat lovers ! I adopted my kitty from the Edmonton Humane Society when he was 4 years old – he is now over 10! I can’t remember how I found out about Perfect Pals and the Critter Room. I believe it was throughTiny Kittens. My first experience with the Critter Room and FDJ was Shelby and Sparky. So sad. But then there was the little fence climbing Lizzie. I can’t believe how much time I spent watching! If I were to win a ball or canoe, I would definitely donate it back to Perfect Pals. You are inspirational in your care for cats and kittens! Thank you!

Almost 7 years ago I adopted my sweet, beautiful Willow from Purrfect Pals. When she was initially turned in to the shelter, she was six months old and a bit feral, she needed to be socially acclimated. It took quite a while… it took 18 months in a foster home before she was ready for a home of her own. I am so thankful that Purrfect Pals was there to rescue and care for her. I can not imagine our lives without her.

It was a couple of years later when I discovered the Critter Room, Foster Dad John’s foster kitten cam. I was on the PP site to make a donation and saw the side bar about the kitten cam, that was the Cosmonaut fosters, it was beautiful to be able to see those precious little souls grow and find forever homes of their own.

Purrfect Pals is a dedicated organization, actually it’s a loving, caring community, that does amazing things.

I started watching John’s cam a year ago. I was very depressed, lost my job and had zero confidence in myself. After subscribing to the cam, I found myself among so many people who shared a love of cats and other topics that are too numerous to mention. I have gained so many friends through the chat, who care about each other and their feline companions, and who give support and love when it is needed. I also learned to appreciate all the hard work John, Purrfect Pals, and all those who foster do for the feline community. If I would win the Cat Ball, I will donate it to Purrfect Pals as a gesture of sincere appreciation for all their hard work. Maybe one day, when things turn around for me, I will be able to adopt several kitties (especially the senior ones) to share my life. Thank you all for the great work you do and as the saying goes, “Every Cat Matters.”

I watch each litter that John foster’s and always make sure on adoption day to say a goodbye and wish each cat and kitten success at the adoption. I have seen several Cat Balls and Cat Canoes get adopted also! I am partial to the Canoe. Kittens love them and find endless entertainment or a good nap in their Canoe! I am impressed with John’s technical skills and am glad he has introduced cams to the kitten watching world. So many adoptions have been facilitated by his work. I watch TinyKittens too and Shelly is a great example of what happens when cams and kittens are combined. I watch the Annual Boxathon and cannot believe how much people contribute to the cause. My thanks to you too!

I found The Critter Room by chance when Sparky was 1 day old, and immediately started watching at all hours. I have cried, laughed and ‘awed’ with the rest of this wonderful community, and have come to admire the awesome work of PP and FDJ. I learned about catnoes and catballs, and ordered one for my cats as a Christmas present. They tell me it is one of the best gifts ever, second only to packets of treats! I would love to win this one to donate to PP

Thank you for all the Catnoes and Cat balls you send to FDJ. It is such a joy to watch the cats interact with them in many differnt ways. I am thinking of trying one on my 2 babies Mabelyene and Max Factor ( siblings now almost 6 years old) “Mabel” is a tome boy and her brother is a Mama’s boy. So I may have to get 2 since they may not share.

I originally discovered the critter room cam when FDJ was raising the scientist kittens. Einstein & Tesla looked just like my two kitties, Jack and Caligula. Last year, I rediscovered the cam on youtube. Rediscovering the cam helped my depression out a lot, and helped me get some things back on track. Since then I have began fostering on my own, and so far I’ve changed 15 fuzzy little lives for the better, plus three more who are currently still in my care. Discovering TCR literally changed my life! <3

I found FDJ’s kitten cam on YouTube by accident and fell in love with Shelby and Lizzie. After being without a cat for many years, just adopted Tinky Bell ( a 8 year old Tortie ) from our local shelter. She and I just ordered a cat ball and are eagerly awaiting its arrival. Oh gosh, where to even start? Ironically I was moving away from the Purrfect Pals area when I found them, but thanks to kitten cams that didn’t even matter. There was a lovely woman who made highlight videos of especially cute moments, too, so there was always something to make me smile. When she had to step away I couldn’t stand the thought of the void that would leave so I started figuring out how to do what she did. It has grown to a full time job, and I’m SO happy I’m able to do it. I’ve learned so much, about cats, about video editing, and about how much more I can do than I think I can. “It’s all John’s fault” and we love him for it.

We started watching kittencams right around the time of Evolene, Corsica and Gaia. Just a couple of months later, we took in our first litter of foster kittens ourselves, when their feral mom picked our garage to give birth in. The kittens are now avid cam watchers, they love “flat kittens”, which I realise sounds a bit morbid but it really isn’t. And watching John and Sarah and everyone else helped us a lot, they give such good advice and it made us a lot more confident. The community itself is so supportive and helpful as well. Watching the kitten cams has really enriched our lives, and on top of that, it’s fun too!

I’ve been watching John since the Reindeer Kittens (the day everyone learned about Cupid :,-( .) I was hooked from the beginning. I’ve already sent off a mini ball to the great boxathon. Aside from being incredibly adorable (or adorkable as the situation warrants,) the Critter Cam has gotten me and a lot of other people through some tough times. The time my husband had to make the “last trip” to the vet for Duncan and the time I finally realized I needed to leave work for my own health. Watching the simple honest elegance of new life learning the world has repeatedly soothed my heart. I have learned so much from John’s cam. Purrfect Pals is a shelter model that can and should be followed across the country. We still have our 4 yr old Tuxedo, Mischief, whom we adopted from our local humane society shelter. We love him dearly. He was born at the shelter a mother that had been living under a dumpster and was fostered much as John fosters are. So, we are very grateful for the work fosterers do.

Kitten cams – where to start! Just over 5 years since I stumbled upon The Critter Room and life has never been the same since. The kitten cam vortex is full of laughter, tears, good friends, lots and lots of gorgeous mama cats and kittens. It has even enticed me to venture overseas to meet up with other kitten cam viewers. As a result, most of my best friends now live thousands of miles away. But that’s OK – good excuse to travel and meet up. Being involved in the kitten cam community as been a most rewarding experience. As we jokingly like to say “It’s all John’s fault!”. Thank you, John.

I’ve adopted 4 cats from Purrfect Pals and used to be a volunteer for them – such a great organization!

I have 3 cats currently with them sharing 1 cat ball and 1 cat canoe. They didn’t like the cat ball so much until I put it in the middle of the living room – then they LOVED it. Logan likes to go in the smaller hole sometimes, and then his big floofy butt gets stuck and I get a good laugh.

I’ve been watching FDJ’s cam since Miranda’s kittens. It was an amazing thing to watch kittens be kittens and FDJ’s wonderful interactions with all the fosters. I was using it as my “cat fix” until I could talk my husband into letting me get a cat or foster for a rescue. He’s pretty stubborn so I had to rely on kitten cams for my kitty fix for several years. And then it happened: I found a kitten in my yard after a rare Georgia snowstorm. It was freezing and he was starving so I put him on my covered back porch, made a nest for him with old wool sweaters and blankets, fed him and ran to The Critter Room’s chat for advice on how to take care of this kitten I found! Everyone was very helpful with ideas and things to try. Long story short, my husband caved in and we are keeping this kitty! The Catball is on my list of things to buy for our kitty since I’ve seen how much all the foster cats enjoy it. I just have to space out buying everything because between vet bills, food and litter, this little guy is expensive! But we love him. Thanks for your support of the foster kitten cams and the Ghostie’s Boxathon. Cats enrich our lives, we can at least return the favor.

I first became aware of Cat Canoes and the Cat Ball while watching Foster Dad John’s kitten cam. After I adopted my Siamese mix from the King County Shelter in Kent, I got my then-kitten a Cat Canoe. That bad boy kitty is almost two years old now. About a year ago a Calico kept hanging around our house and wouldn’t leave. I had her checked for a microchip, but she didn’t have one. I publicized that I was looking for her owners with flyers in my neighborhood and posted online (Pawboost, Facebook and NextDoor.) No one claimed her. She’s mine now (and what a sweetheart!)

January 21, 2018

I started watching kitten cams in 2014 as a way to decompress a bit during breaks from being a caregiver to my Mom. I migrated to FDJ’s “Critter Room” and Sarah’s “Kitten Cuddle Room” because of how nice the chatters were along with the great job each of them do as foster parents to the kittens and cats they care for. When my Mom died at the end of 2015 the kitten cams and the community helped me get through my grief even though I didn’t really say anything about it. Seeing FDJ, Sarah and other chatters share how the kittens and their own cats helped them through tough times made me feel like I wasn’t alone.

Seeing how former adopters and fans of the kittens and cats stay involved and do so much to help the cat community as a whole can be inspiring at times. Creating the Boxathon, volunteering at shelters, modding the cam chats, recording clips from the kitten cam feeds that can be shared with others and all the other things I’ve forgotten to mention.

It’s always fun to watch the kittens and cats discover their cat balls/canoes for the first time and their choices on how to use them.

I love seeing the Boxathon and all the kittie goodies that Perfect Pals get. It is awesome that Cat Ball is a sponsor.

I was talking this up on The Critter Room chat last night. I’m excited to participate, and can’t wait to watch again this year – you do so much great work for the kitties. I look forward to seeing you, and all! <3

I’ve been watching FDJ’s cam since the Mythbuster Fosters. The litter before the Ghosties were the Pixar’s. Also a bonded trio. Those are my furbabies (or, more accurately, I’m their slave). A year later, Charlie Whitepaws, from the Dahl fosters, joined the family. So, four Critter Room alumni.

Attending the Average Joe Cat Show one year, my sister and I happened across this product we were assured our cat(s) would figure out. The first Cat Ball product was purchased. I now have that first catnoe, a shark bed, the bunny bed (love it!), and a leopard print ball. I’ve attend each KCC and have made many new friends. I’ve purchased a bunch of stuff for the boxathon, but held back some allocated funds waiting for what was coming from the Cat Ball. Now to shop!

Keep up the good work Jennifer. Scritch Tink and Retro for me.

I have been watching John and his fosters since 2012! I live several states away from WA but watching John inspired me to start volunteering with the kitties at my local shelter, which I have been doing for over a year. I will also finally be able to join in the Kitten Cam Convention this year! Yay! Oh and my kitty Poppy LOVES her cat ball (she’s sleeping in it right now) _

Thank you, The Cat Ball, for supporting the 4th Annual Ghosties Birthday Boxathon. Your support of the kitties of Purrfect Pals is so very much appreciated. Such lucky kitties to get new Cat Balls!
